Coast to Coast AM - 08-07-11 - The Brain & Spiritual Beliefs
http://www.mediafire.com/?nfcwbacc6fid369 <--
Host: George Noory
Guests: Matthew Alper, Madeleine Walker
Author and philosopher Matthew Alper shared his contention that human beings are genetically hard wired to experience belief in spirituality and various paranormal phenomena, even though there is no scientific basis for it. According to sociobiology, there are regions in the human brain that generate these belief systems, and Alper concluded that the brain evolved this way as a coping mechanism to deal with the knowledge of our inevitable deaths. "I believe that the anxiety [about death] was so overwhelming that it forced the selection of this cognitive modification which...compels us to believe that there's this other transcendental force...through which, even though we know the physical body will die, we now believe this spiritual component will live on forever," he said.
Alper reported on studies of meditation and prayer, which show decreased blood flow in the amygdala region of the brain-- this helps to reduce anxiety and fear, which could account for the sense of spirituality. Similarly, he noted that the parietal lobe also gets a decreased blood flow, which can affect spatial and temporal consciousness. Many people who are "hyper religious" have epilepsy, he added.
Regarding NDEs, if someone is in the process of dying, decreased blood flow and oxygen cause the brain to release the neurotransmitter glutamate, which interacts with the temporal lobe and triggers religious experiences, he continued. Alper also suggested that giving credence to UFOs/aliens was another way for people to escape anxiety around death, through belief in a supernatural or transcendent power.
Animal Communications
First hour guest, animal communicator Madeleine Walker talked about the messages she has received from various creatures, which have even included insects. One way people can tune in to such messages is by "imagining a cord of your heart feeling connecting with the animal's heart," as this is a way of showing respect to the animal, and that you are willing to listen to them, she explained. Sometimes if an animal has specific body pain, she will feel pain in a corresponding region in her body, she added.

Host: Art Bell
Guests: Greg Bishop, Richard Doty
Fringe-culture historian and publisher of The Excluded Middle, Greg Bishop, shared the story of a government authorized campaign of disinformation that defined an era of alien paranoia and destroyed the life of the late Paul Bennewitz.
According to Bishop's account, Bennewitz detected strange lights and radio signals coming from Kirtland Air Force Base outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. An electrical physicist and pilot, Bennewitz believed he had stumbled upon alien communications, possibly the beginning signs of an extraterrestrial invasion. Alarmed by his findings, Bennewitz contacted the military and other government agencies, Bishop said.
Enter counter-intelligence officer Richard Doty, a surprise guest who joined the discussion with Art and Bishop. Doty contends that Bennewitz was close to uncovering top military secrets, so the government began a disinformation campaign against him to keep him believing the signals and lights were of alien origin. Bennewitz eventually ended up in mental institution for several months, a tragedy for which Doty feels some remorse.
Doty also claims to have personally fed lies and disinformation to frequent Coast guest Linda Moulton Howe, while she was working on a UFO special for HBO. Among Doty's other startling revelations during the program were that Roswell actually happened (he's seen the briefing film), a living alien was recovered, and the government was involved in cattle mutilations.

Dreamland - 08-05-11 - The God Theory
http://www.mediafire.com/?75k83w87aimxk4y <--
Recently, the renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has offered the idea that the universe might have generated itself spontaneously out of nothing. Here, astrophysicist Bernard Haisch offers a vivid exploration of why that might NOT be true. Anne Strieber asks him about the God theory — does it still hold up? Or are we alone in a vast nonmeaning? Bernard Haisch says, "Is it possible that there is a purpose behind the universe? One that is consistent with modern science and especially the Big Bang and evolution?" His answer is enlightening and surprising. Dreamland at its MOST provocative!

Host: George Noory
Guests: Lionel Fanthorpe
Author and researcher Lionel Fanthorpe shared paranormal reports and stories from his home in Britain. Since the country has had such a long and turbulent history, it may explain why ghostly "replays" of emotionally charged events occur with some frequency, he said. Fanthorpe recounted the tale of the mermaid of Zennor (a coastal town of Cornwall). She was described as having a fish-like tail and it was said she raised a family in an underwater cave. And supposedly, one day the mermaid asked a sea captain to move his ship because his anchor was blocking the entrance to her home. Fanthorpe speculated that it's possible a humanoid species could have developed that had increased adaptability to water.
He also shared an event that took place when he, Uri Geller, and assorted psychics were called to investigate a haunted house at Stonegate, York. Lionel also revisited the Green Children case of the 12th century, theorizing that copper poisoning may have been the cause of their strange body color. He also conjectured about the purpose of Stonehenge, saying it may have been a magical device situated above ley lines and used for healing or conversely a place for human sacrifice performed at certain times of the year.
